My last article had a significant mistake due to my forgetting to enable JavaScript for the Flock web site. It has been updated to correct this.

22nd December 2008

I've been having a look at Flock as a potential new browser for my mum (not me though, I love my extensions and hate social networking) but I have to say it failed to make the grade in my basic tests. I never even got to the point of using it, the install itself looked like far too much hassle. When I was setting up a PC for my mum, I made a silent promise that I would stick to using only the official repositories, the only exception being Medibuntu (which I knew would be required at some point). Each third-party repository and outside package would increase the difficulty of maintenance, which I am determined to keep to a minimum. Flock would've meant breaking that promise, so Firefox will do for the moment.

Bastard.

I've continued messing with my favourite comics page, and I think I'm done for now. Sadly, it seems 8-bit Theater is done too. 1070 comics, all leading up to a very underwhelming ending. I'm not totally convinced that's it, but I've marked it as dead since it does seems fairly conclusive.

A huge favourite comics page update today (including being renamed from "My Bookmarked Comics", since a lot aren't bookmarked any more). A section has been added showing the variable quality of web feeds from them. They're not the only sites, but it seemed a decent way to do a cross-section. Most don't do very well.

3rd December 2008

It's here. It's on December 3rd rather than before, but I really should've said before the end of December 3rd anyway. Note the alternating red and green headers, it was too hard to read without them. It's a long article too, so it may take some time to read.

In other news, I've finally got Sky up here. It's been a fair wait, but now I can watch MythBusters while on my computer. Things are looking good.

1st December 2008

Amazingly enough, I don't want to talk about Pleasuredome now. My thoughts have gone back to the aftermath of the recent US presidential election. Most results have come in now, with Missouri going to McCain (not that it matters) and Mark Begich winning in Alaska. Proposition 8 is still being challenged in California, the Missouri senate election still has the on-going recount to get through, and the Georgia election goes to a run-off tomorrow. Jim Martin's only chance to win in Georgia is to get a surprisingly high turnout on election day, so if I have a reader in Georgia, get out and vote. I know it's cold, it's cold here too, just wear something warm for God's sake.

One thing that has amused me recently is an article I found through an article on Vox Popoli. It was written on November 3rd and predicted a win for McCain. I checked the rather detailed predictions and found, amazingly enough, that none of them were true. That level of failure is pretty amazing by itself, and I'll probably write an article of my own detailing how fiction and reality differed so completely in this case. Expect to see it before December 3rd.

I'm also managing to be consistently on top of my archiving now, as it's done for the month already. Shizuku's still pretty broken, but I've given up on getting all of these problems fixed until Kubuntu 9.04 is out. Won't affect the site though.
