The change to (X)HTML 5 has now happened. The changes have made the site coding slightly smaller, but the only visible change is that the W3C validation buttons have been removed from the bottom of this page. This is because (X)HTML 5 is only a working draft, so there is no button for it. pointlessness still validates though, and now even the CSS Validator is happy after an incidental change in coding.
Quick update. XHTML 2 is now officially dead. While there is the possibility of an XHTML 1.2, this doesn't look like a good road to be on, and I do hate being withot a viable upgrade path.
Still, all is not lost. HTML 5 can be expressed as either HTML or XHTML, and the Markup Validtor has been upgraded to accept HTML 5 now. So I may switch pointlessness over to (X)HTML 5. This should be a pretty easy task, though there are some other coding changes I might make at the same time, so I'll take some time to work out exactly where I want to go before changing things.
In other news, I am now the proud owner of a Unicomp Customizer. Mine is a 105-key UK English varient, and it works great. It's solid, responsive, and well-designed. The only possible problem is the noise of the buckling spring design, which is certainly quite loud. Still, if that doesn't turn out to be a big problem, this keyboard should last a while. Similar IBM Model M keyboards produced before I was born are still in use today, and Unicomp has trouble turning a profit due to how seldom new keyboards are required. Given that this one feel perfectly fine and uses the non-depreciated USB connection, I doubt I'll been needing a replacement any time soon.
